The Banknote History

In 1996, Mr. Richard Faille from France, in collaboration with the “Monnaie de Paris,” conceived the idea of a Euro souvenir coin. The objective was to produce a customizable coin that museums, landmarks, monuments, and theme parks could provide to their visitors and collectors.

During the past 18 years, more than 60 million coins have been successfully sold!

In April 2015, a contemporary successor to the coin was introduced: The Euro Souvenir BANKNOTE.

In collaboration with a distinguished printing house, Richard Faille developed a high-quality, customized “Euro Souvenir” banknote. This souvenir banknote, printed by a long-time partner of the ECB, incorporates various security features, including a watermark, copper stripes, tactile elements, hologram, transparent register, security background, invisible fluorescent ink, and a unique serial number for each note.

Initially, 100 locations in France were chosen for the first series.

Since early 2015, the Euro Souvenir has enjoyed immense success in France, quickly becoming one of the most popular souvenirs, second only to postcards.

Starting in 2020, personalized Euro Souvenir banknotes became available in Turkey, Greece, Croatia and Romania, followed by most other EU member states.
